I am writing this from my bed while listening to the rainfall outside my window. Normally, this would be an immensely peaceful scene, but not today, as I have been bested by this natural phenomenon. Aside from the inevitable yet torturous wet socks, the strong winds made my umbrella no more than a fashion statement. I arrived home from class with wet hair, drenched shoes, and my energy drained. This was not helped by my midterm this morning, which had me up at 7:00 AM sharp to grind practice quizzes before the test at 11:35 (went great btw, thanks for asking).
Anyway, I spent the majority of the rest of the day in my suite, only leaving to grab dinner. Although the rain was quite a hassle, I must admit that the sound of the rainfall is very soothing. Even now, I’m tempted to put my laptop down and pass out, but you guys are keeping me up (I forgive you).
The calm nature that the day brought was briefly (2.5 hours) interrupted by a heated discussion on topics ranging from which philanthropic measures were truly effective to whether intelligence existed between my suitemate, Stefan Bumbaugh, and I. Stefan carries a unique combination of global awareness, societal empathy, and uncanny perceptiveness which makes him incredibly fascinating to talk to. He's the type of person to understand a Christopher Nolan movie without watching an ending explained video (I unfortunately do not possess this skill).
Anyway, today was a great reset. I was physically forced at the threat of wet socks (again, torturous feeling) to stay inside and relax. I did my math homework, studied up for my Econ midterm, and let the calm wash over me as my suitemates and I watched our daily episode of Severance (almost finished).
Alright, lesson of the day is to appreciate the rainy days, no matter how annoying, and to pack waterproof shoes when you know you are going to live in New Haven. Tomorrow is going to be super fun, see you all then.
