Shorter one today because I want to go to sleep. Started the day by meeting with Ammar Al Khouli, founder of Levers (YC S22). Ammar Al Khouli is a very special person. He is one of less than 5 Saudis to graduate from Yale College (including me), a founder of one of the only Saudi YC backed companies, and he grew up in Jeddah, the same city that I am from. The most powerful property of mentors is not their wisdom or knowledge, but the fact that they accomplished what they did, showing you that what you want is achievable. The very fact that what you want to do has been done before, that it is truly not impossible, is the key to bypassing the imaginary limitations that you place upon yourself.
I also helped a student from Saudi with his Yale app today. I realized, in the short time that I've spent on this planet, that there is a beautiful cyclic nature to mentorship, moving from mentee to mentor as you progress through different stages of your journey. I hope to do what Ammar is doing for me to someone else someday.
Anyway, round 2 of midterms is coming up, I need to sleep, so the lesson of the day is that step 1 to any achieving any unachievable goal is to find someone who achieved it and send them a DM on linkedin.
